  Magic. By Karina Robinson

Once upon a time there was an ordinary family, or were they? They had a dark secret!  Their names were Mary, Gary and their daughter Cindy. Cindy was not the same as her family, Cindy's family was evil, but not as evil as they were about to get! Their planet was so evil that it was even called Eviltopia. The evil was taking over everything! Their only hope was light, but that was impossible because there was no light in their whole galaxy. The stars were all burned out and the suns were all dead. There was no hope, or so they thought.

One evil morning, Cindy felt funny. Like there was something growing in her that was not evil. It felt like....good! All day long the feeling got bigger and bigger. The next day everyone saw that Cindy was different and started to chase her. Even her evil family was after her!

They almost caught her when all of the sudden she stopped and sneezed. "AAA , AAAAH, AAAACHOOOOOOOO!" Light suddenly came out everywhere. The stars blazed with light, and the sun blew up with light. Right away everyone turned good, all because of a little girl who believed that anything is possible.

So remember, light is the second most powerful thing in the world. Love is the first!.

"Filling a Need" Minimize

The following was written by a student at Fabius-Pompey High School, in 2004. It has never been more true than it is today.

"Filling a Need"

With so many people out of work these days, it is hard not to feel bad when you see someone who is out of work and hungry and standby and do nothing, knowing that you can feel the hunger pains right along with them.
It doesn't matter how they lost the job they had; downsizing, budget cuts, or shipping work out of state or country can lead a person of any social status to the unemployment line, including you.
The end result is usually the same; a feeling of confusion, loss of self-worth and suicidial thoughts along with so much anger that it tears your heart apart into little pieces. You can almost see them falling to the floor.
Where would someone go, who would they turn to, to help take care of their family? Would you be there for them? Would you hold out your hand and give them the hug that they need without question?
In our community, we are lucky. We have a place called the "Food Pantry" that can help people of low or no income, feed their families. There, they don't ask questions that make you want to crawl under a box. They offer help willingly, knowing that their job could be the next one lost.
Try to imagine 'no way to pay the light bill' and not having food on the table for your children and at the end of the week your children saying they need school supplies. You feel deep into your pockets, look under the car seats, you're digging for every spare cent you can find.
Still not enough? Who would you turn to for help? All you need is someone to understand what you are going through. Still feel hopeless and alone, trying to do everything that you can and getting nowhere? You could turn to your neighbors and the churches in your town, but your pride gets in your way.
So most people just tough it out, living day to day until someone helps 'fill the need.'  -- J. L. B. 2004 F-P

BEWARE OF WORMS Minimize

Beware of Worms

Jeffery liked going fishing. He took his Grandma everyday to the pond. Jeffery knew how to bait his hook, cast his line and catch big fish.

The hardest part of catching fish was to get the wiggly worm on the hook. Jeffery would reach into the worm can and pull out a big, fat juicy worm. Grandma didn't like to touch them.

"Don't worry Grandma, they won't bite," Jeffery said.  He dangled a fat worm in front of Grandma's face.

"Eeuuww," cried Grandma. "He wiggles too much for me."

Jeffery put the worm on Grandma's hook.

"Now cast your line into the water. Then wait for a fish to bite," Jeffery explained.

Grandma raised her hand back and threw her line out into the water. When she stepped back and sat down on the grass she tripped over the can of worms.

Jeffery didn't see the can had tipped over. He was too busy waiting for a fish to bite.

The worms started wiggling out of the can and went straight towards Grandma's pant leg. They crawled inside and started squirming.

Grandma let out a shreak and Jeffery couldn't help but laugh and roll around on the ground.

"Grandma, you're silly. Worms can't hurt you," he said picking up the worms and putting them back in the can.

Still laughing, Jeffery grabbed his Grandma's hand, "We can go home now. You scared away all the fish.
